The desert-dwelling, nocturnal fennec fox is the subject for this chalk pastel project. Students drew half of the fennec fox and then folded, transferred and traced to create the other half in order to have a symmetrically balanced animal. Layering and blending chalk to create custom colors give this fox the illusion of realistic form when shadows and highlights are added. Finally, the neutral fox becomes the emphasis of the project when set against a bright, intergalactic background.
