Students got to mix tints and shades in this polar lesson featuring an iceberg, glacier and some happy penguins wearing hats. Space and shape also played a role to give this project depth and dimension.
Tints and Shades: students mixed paint to create different values of a color. Value is the lightness or darkness of a color. When a color is mixed with white, a tint is created. Adding additional white paint makes lighter and lighter tints. When a color is mixed with black, a shade is created.
Poles Apart by Jeanne Willis and Jarvis is a cute book about a group of penguins from the South Pole that et lost and end up at the North Pole
where they meet a helpful polar bear. .Adventure awaits the unlikely friends as they make their way back to their respective poles.
