3rd grade was busy in art this year!
Identity grids:  After looking at examples of symbolism in art, students had to come up with various symbols to represent their identity and put them together to create a colorful composition.
Warm/cool color weavings:  Students studied the color wheel and learned more specifically about warm and cool colors.  Using a crayon/watercolor resist method, 2 paintings were created (one only using warm colors, the other only cool).  We then took the 2 colorful paintings and wove them together to create a contrasting composition.  Weaving methods and vocabulary were discussed.
Dragon mask:  Inspired by the Chinese New Year dragon Nian, students had to create a dragon mask of their own.  Masks had to show symmetry and blending of analogous colors using oil pastels.
Famous painting re-created:  After choosing a famous painting from history to critique, students to had re-create the painting as best as they could using whatever art supplies they had at home.
