5th - Jackson Pollock Inspired Watercolor

Pollock Painting was the first project of the school year. Students began by examining the artwork of the American painter Jackson Pollock. Pollock is best known for his experimental painting and his abstract style. Students began their painting by creating gravity lines with paint. They were only allowed to tip and tilt their paper to move the paint. The lack of control allowed the students to create a free-form abstract picture. Next, they explored several different watercolor painting techniques: wet-on-wet, wet-on-dry, dry-on-dry, and resist. The new organic shapes were then painted with watercolors. The result was an abstract painting with the effect of stained glass.
