Every year, the Oregon department of agriculture puts out a calendar, featuring products grown raised, or found in Oregon. Students must submit an artwork to be featured for each of the calendar months, and could win $50 if their artwork is selected. Inspired by pop artist Dave Hockney painting of the Garrowby Hill, students painted the farms of the Willamette valley. The students painted the hills using both ends of their paint brushes and tempera paint. They used the back of the brush to scratch away the top layer of paint to draw patterns, lines, and textures within their landscape scene.
