Open House January 2024

For Open House this year, our students all focused on a different book in their classroom or as in Middle School, a topic from their current curriculum work.  Our Kindergarten read Jan Brett's The Umbrella and created a rainforest in their classroom.  They used a guided drawing and then painted their own Tropical Toucans to join the fun!  Our 8th graders looked at Space and created Mars Biodomes and also created mosaic paintings of their Confirmation Saints.  Our 7th grade studied Ancient Egypt and created stylized figure drawings of various Egyptian characters.   Our 1st graders read The Magic Treehouse Space Mission and created their own Space Kitty astronaut as well as a symmetrical rocket in outer space.  Second Grade learned about building their "dream" house and created 3D cottages based off of buildings in Cartegena, Colombia.  Studying the State of Maryland, 4th grade created a native mammal - the raccoon in a tree with their Nighttime Raccoons.  Sixth grade expanded their study of ancient civilizations and incorporated Roman Figure Busts made from pastels.  Fifth grade furthered their study of the book Weslandia and created their own civilization, including a self portrait.  They used watercolors and colored pencils to give their designs a variety of values.  Third grade created another habitat, an iceberg for their Antarctic Penguins, from tempera paint and collage.
