For our open house this year, each of our classes focused on a book to weave throughout their learning this month.  Here are the books and their lessons.

PreK 3 - Dr. Seuss - students made the Cat in the Hat as well as Thing 1 and Thing 2 using paint sticks and collage.

PreK 4 - Pete the Cat - students made a torn paper Pete the Cat and a Pete the Cat Puppet using paint sticks and practicing their cutting.

Kindergarten - A Pen Pal for Max by Gloria Rand - students made Chilean Tree Frogs using marker painting and collage to represent the home country of their story's main character

1st Grade - Sunset of the Sabertooth by Mary Pope Osborne - students drew Wooly Mammoths and painted them with both watercolors and tempera paints.

2nd Grade - If I Built A House by Chris Van Dusen - students drew an adobe house in the southwest and added color using chalk pastels.

3rd Grade - The Curious Garden by Peter Brown - students made a "Window into Winter"  to represent the portion of the book where the young man's garden was covered under the winter snow.

4th Grade - Math Curse by Jon Scieszka and Lane Smith - students created collage designs using "entire" circles cut into equivalent fractional pieces.

5th Grade - Over and Under the Pond by Kate Messner - students created an ecosystem centered around a fresh water pond landscape

6th Grade - Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan - students created Grecian style "marble" busts using oil and chalk pastels focusing on symmetry and pattern.
