Students learned about artist, Pablo Picasso and the art style, Cubism. Pablo Picasso is one of the founders of Cubism. Cubism is an art style in which artists broke down objects into basic geometric shapes. The artists used the shapes to show many angles of the original object. Students practiced drawing portraits using basic geometric shapes in different angles to create a Picasso style portrait. Students used slab, coil, texture and the score and slip technique to create the clay portraits. After the clay portraits were bisque fired, the students applied bright colored glazes to their portraits. Students used color "mood" for their color choices. For example, blue may represent sadness and yellow may represent excitement.
