Pirate Ship in a Bottle

Students viewed images of popular types of pirate ships. They identified characteristics of a brigantine ship and a frigate ship which were commonly used by pirates. Students also viewed images of ships in a bottle and counted the amount of masts to determine what type of ship was created in each work of art. For their project students created an outline of a bottle and a cork using construction paper. To create the ocean they mixed tints and shades of blue to create ocean water. For the pirate ship they created a collage to make either a brigantine or frigate ship and included the correct amount of masts and sails. They also added a Jolly Roger flag to make it known that their ship belongs to a group of pirates. Finally they painted white shine lines to make their bottle glisten.
