Fifth graders began the year looking at the artwork of Bridget Riley. She became famous in the 1960's for her black and white graphic designs that played tricks on your eyes. They created the optical illusion of movement even they were not moving. We studied art works by Rene Magritte and M.C. Escher.
Each student was challenged to use an entire sheet of piece of black paper cut and placed in unique ways to create our own op art. They will be used later to create something new and different.
Ask a fifth grader how OP art was used in WWI.
