Art 2: Tempera Ink-Wash

Advanded Art 2 students created self-portraits in a colorful, expressionistic manner. Students began with a contour line portrait in 3/4 view (more difficult than a straight forward view) that incorporated at least one hand in the pose. 2 layers of tempera paint (in alternating colors) were painted first, followed by a layer of ink over the entire surface. Once dry, students washed off the ink and portions of the second coat of paint to create a visually interesting effect. Some students retouched areas of their portraits later to create more contrast.
