All students from Kindergarten through 6th grade created a thumbprint self portrait to display in our portrait gallery. We learned about the artist Chuck Close and were facinated by his realistic large scale (9 feet tall) portraits made from just his fingerprints. We learned that he had to persevere through many challenges in his life to become a thriving successful artist. He was dislexic and struggled to read and was diagnosed with face blindness. Later in life he suffered a medical emergency that left him parralized. Through all this he set goals and worked hard to rehabilitate himself so he could continue to paint from his wheel chair. This year our school theme is perseverence. We strive to conquor any challenges in our way and have a successful year.
