UNIT C - Monster Ceramics

This project was our first clay based project this year. We discussed where clay comes from, what clay is made of, the history behind clay, modern uses and then the process of working with clay. For this particular project, the class was shown how to roll a coil and construct a bowl/cup using a coiling and scoring process to create a form that could then be made into a monster/creature of their choosing. The students worked very hard and learned a lot about clay, the process of scoring, adding slip, keeping their work moist between classes, letting clay dry slowly and then the challenges of firing the clay in a kiln. The final step is to glaze the works and fire them one last time, after which they are complete and ready to use/display!
