"In A Jar" Project

Students engaged in a creative and meaningful lesson designed to foster a sense of community within the classroom. Each student drew their own jar on construction paper using white oil pastel, allowing them to express their individuality. They then created their own small drawings of memories that resonate with them, which they cut out and pasted onto their jars.

Literary Connection:
To complement this project, we explored the book, "In a Jar," by Deborah Marcero. This heartwarming story follows friends who collect their adventures and cherished items in jars. The narrative takes an emotional turn when one friend’s family moves away, prompting them to find ways to maintain their friendship and collection from a distance.

This project aligns with the National Core Arts Standard in creating and developing artistic ideas, encouraging students to organize their thoughts and express themselves through visual art.
