This year, 8th grade artists were asked to study both self portraiture and several artists who are known for portraits.  Frida Kahlo, Amedeo Modigliani, Kehinde Wiley, Pablo Picasso, and William Kentridge were among artists that we looked at as inspiration for their final Self-portrait projects.  Students were asked to consider the style and techniques of these different artists while working on their own.  Some portraits you will find quite realistic.  Others may seem a bit unrealistic, even strange.  Keep in mind the students were asked to think of self-portraiture in new ways, while keeping enough individualism to recognize themselves.

Students from Quarter 1 and 2 were able to complete their portraits.  Some students from Quarter 3 were able to finish their work before school was released due to COVID-19.  Several students were not able to complete their work.  Students from Quarter 4 were asked to complete a modified version of this project using limited materials and resources.  There may be missing portraits for the above reasons.
