The last pop artist of our unit study is Keith Haring. He was an artist made famous by his NYC Subway graffiti. His artwork is easily recognizable by the simple outline of figures and shapes, typically "in motion" (dancing, jumping, etc.). The students first listened to the book "The Boy Who Just Kept Drawing" to learn more about Keith Haring and how he became an artist. Next, we put together flexible shape figures with movable arms and legs. The students then positioned their figures into their favorite action poses and traced them onto different colored paper. Finally, they attached them to a background (which they glued together using two colors of paper to show some depth) and created their final scene of action figures.
