UNIT: As Kindergarten Artists begin their creative journey at Keys, we discuss what constitutes a mistake and the feelings we have when we make them. Together, we read the book, BEAUTIFUL OOPS! by Barney Saltzberg. Beautiful Oops! begins to show us how to turn a mistake into a positive and creative experience. For the rest of their time in the Keys Lower School Art Room, young artists will remind themselves and others to turn their mistakes into Beautiful Oops! ESSENTIAL QUESTIONS: 1. What is a mistake? 2. What feelings do I have when I make a mistake? 3. How can mistakes be good things? 4. What do I do if I make a mistake? OBJECTIVES: 1. Accept that mistakes can happen to anyone at any time. 2. View mistakes as neither bad nor scary, but natural parts of life. 3. Recognize that we have the power to turn mistakes into positive, constructive, and creative experiences. 4. Understand that mistakes give us the opportunity to go-back and do something in a different way. PROJECT: Imagination Workout Drawing Sheet Use your imagination to create a completely new picture, place, or thing from the "mistake" found in each square. The Imagination Workout drawing sheet can be turned in any direction to help you create your Beautiful Oops! Begin in pencil then use gel pens for color. The colors you add should further help communicate your Beautiful Oops! MATERIALS Imagination Workout (drawing sheet) Drawing Pencil Gel Pens
