5th graders learned a bit about the history of ceramics and the difference between decorative and functional ceramics. Students then created their own functional ceramic mugs by creating a pinch pot form and then rolling a clay coil and bending it and attaching it to make a handle. Once their clay mugs were fired, they glazed their pattern on the exterior wall of their mug and made sure to also glaze the interior and handle so it can actually be used to drink out of.
