About this School Project (3rd Mexican Zapotec Loom Weaving)
Students studied the Zapotec Indians from Mexico and their weavings, history, and culture. Students learned how the Zapotec prepare the yarn, dye the yarn using natural colors, and then weave the yarn. Students used their own inspirations from nature to choose colors from nature. Students learned how to use the tabby weave, weaving over and under the warp thread of their looms, creating a weft. Lastly, we cut off our weavings from our looms and tied knots at the ends to ensure our weavings would stay in place.
