About this School Project (2nd Van Gogh Flowers Still Life)
Students in Second Grade learned how Vincent Van Gogh used bright colors in his artworks. We discussed and looked at different still life paintings by Van Gogh. In our discussion we talked about the positives and negatives of creating a work of art inside and outside and also how we could create our own still life at home where we could come back and draw at a later time. We learned about composition and unity in our drawing and division of space. We drew our vases on the table by using a line to show it is on the table instead of floating above the table. By looking at flowers, we learned how to draw realistic shapes and added a variety of lines and textures to create pattern. We added shadows and highlights as well as our own unique patterns in our table cloths. Students used bright pastels on dull paper to create a visual interest.
