About this School Project (2nd Starry Night)
Second Graders learned about the artist Vincent Van Gogh and his famous artwork Starry Night. Students created their own interpretations of Starry Night using tempera paint. First students drew a roof line utilizing different styles of roofs. Using black paper for contrast, students painted yellow windows and then cut out the city sky line. Next, students created a horizon line to separate the earth from the sky on the blue paper for a landscape background. Students painted stars in the background. Students learned different impressionist type brushstrokes using different techniques such as the dab/dot, fast/slow, line/blob, and loading the brush to paint in the swirl, sky and grass. Lastly, students learned how to mix colors together on the paper creating an impressionist look and style.
