These are “Landscape Prints” and I see that they’re all the same picture except the middle one is reversed. Did you use the middle one to make the top and bottom ones? How did you do that? I’m curious. Is it sort of like using an ink stamp? Hmmm…

This is very interesting, Paisley. Its title is “Cyanotype Landscape Prints.” What is cyanotype? Is it a special kind of paper or ink? The print looks like it’s kind of like a negative image on film (film is something that the old kinds of cameras used before we had digital cameras). Are those plants that you used to make the print? It’s an interesting art method—you’ll have to explain how it works the next time we visit.

You did a really good job of drawing and coloring this dragon, Paisley. I see you drew lines for details on the skin and you used blending and shading to give it dimension. I like the blues and purples you blended. Are you studying about dragons or is this from a story you read?

I’m very curious what this picture is about, Paisley. I know that “La Primavera” is Spanish and means “The Spring,” but I’m wondering why you made a picture about spring when it’s almost winter. I’m also wondering who the girl is (is it you?). She’s very happy—what is she happy about? You did a good job of drawing her—I’m not very good at drawing people. She’s in a forest and there’s something in the trees above her, but I’m not sure what it is. It looks like you used some water colors and also maybe you sponge painted the leaves in the trees. The trees are dark—I wonder why. I’m so curious about this picture! You’ll have to tell me about it the next time we visit.

This is such a pretty winter tree picture, Paisley. I really like the wintery colors and how you blended the white and green to make the tree look like it has snow on it. Did you make the falling snow by flicking paint on a brush (maybe a toothbrush?)? I also like the tissue paper snow under the tree—that’s a nice affect. It looks icy. I think you like the colors too since they’re kind of tealish (is teal still your favorite color?). It looks like such a peaceful tree—I’d like to be there! It reminds me of when Mama and I used to go up into the mountains to get a Christmas tree together (that was before Mama and Papa got married). Did you go up into the mountains to get your tree this year? I really enjoy seeing your artwork—you’re very artistic!

Your Tim Burton Inspired Self Portrait definitely looks like Tim Burton’s type of art style, Paisley. Do you like his art style? Is there a name for this kind of art style? I’m thinking it’s kind of “Halloweenish” and maybe your teacher chose this art style because it was just Halloween a week or so ago. Are the XXXs on the mouth supposed to be stitches? The eyes look like zombie eyes—that seems to be one of the signature characteristics of Tim Burton’s art style. Did you design the frame? It really looks like a kind of frame that would be in a spooky old house.

This is very interesting and colorful artwork, Paisley. I’m so curious to know what all the different patterns represent. Some look like puzzle pieces with different expressions on them. You made a foil sculpture (Can you do the splits like that?!) and I think you drew the shadow behind it or is that the actual shadow? I hope you’ll tell me about this project the next time we visit. It must be fun to explore different kinds and styles of art!

You did very well with your drawing of DaVinci’s wing, Paisley. You have a lot of detail and I really like the way you blended colors to make the feathers look so realistic. I see that you had to write words backwards because DaVinci’s wing had words written backwards. Was that because he wrote on the back side of the paper and the ink came through to the front? I also see you drew measurement lines like he did. Your artwork is getting very good Paisley

This is a wonderful picture, Paisley! You did a wonderful job with using the vanishing point! Did you think of the idea for the setting or did all the students in your class draw the same basic picture? (I’m pretty sure that the “love” sign on the barn was your idea!). It looks like such a nice peaceful place to be. I think you really enjoy art. ??

I really like your artwork, Paisley The Amate Bark Painting has such beautiful colors—you drew it and colored it so well. I especially like it. You did a great job with your Medieval Self Portrait—faces are hard to draw! (Did you have to look in a mirror and imagine that you were in medieval times as you drew yourself?). You have lots of details in your Nutcracker and you really did well in making it symmetrical (that means that both signs should be pretty much the same).
