Mackenzie, my spidey sense is telling me that you might have drawn this while observing a real live pumpkin, like a "still life". If so, I am so glad and proud that you are working this way. There is nothing better than drawing from life. It's so good for your brain and your eyes and your hand. You did a great job identifying where the light is hitting and where the shadow is, nice subtly between the two that really gives it volume! I love that you are working also on dark paper and using light to draw with. Isn't that fun? It really makes it easy to use light to describe the form, right? I hope you are having so much fun drawing. I love to think about you making art! keep it up. I love you and all your art! Love, A.C. Alyssa

Oooooh Mackenz! What a cool drawing! I like the darkness, it makes me feel like this is the top half of a pumpkin that someone left behind and now it's night time and it's raining and the pumpkin might even be a little lonely! Such a great drawing - way to go!!! Keep up the great work! XO, Uncles

Mackenzie! There are so many things to take in about this lovely painting, I needed a little time to ponder it before commenting, I'm sorry it took me so long. Can I tell you one thing I think is SO SMART about this? I tell all my students, FOR REAL to do this exact thing that you did....you started on a paper that already had a neutral tone to it, which means it's not a bright color, and it's not white...the light brown tone to the paper really gives all your colors the best chance to really shine against it - including WHITE, which on a white paper wouldn't happen, and the bright colors might compete with a bright colored tone. (in the biz we call that light brown tone of your paper the GROUND :).) THE OTHER THING that is so lovely is your instinctive choices of colors and where they go is very smart and beautiful. You seem to know where to strategically place your brightest yellows, then the subtler pinks, and the beatiful clear light blues that complement them so well. And that's not all that's happening. You balance the page wonderfully by placing the floating figure above the buildings which take up the bottom 2/3rds of the page. The whole composition is very pleasing and my eye keeps moving all around. I think this is a natural gift you also have. I bet even your teacher can't make paintings this good ;) I'm so proud of you and continue to enjoy seeing what you're working on so keep sending please! You are a true artist! Love you and can't wait to hang out again soon. .xoxo Aunt Cousin Alyssa

Woah, Makenz, there is SO MUCH going on here! I really like all the colors, the shapes, the textures you included. I especially love that each of the "blocks" is its very own thing. Different shapes, different shapes within the shapes, it's so fun! And then this looks like the spirit of fun and good times floating up above, is that what it is?! Great job, really proud of you!!
- Jason(fan) on October 14, 2023
this is a WHOLE STREET OF HOUSES. I like it. I especially like the yellow sky - it makes everyone seem very happy in their houses and that is very fun and nice. I love you mackenzie peacher potcher!!!

Mackensington, what cool artwork! It's hard to tell because the picture is small on my end but who are those real people whose faces are in the houses? Are they people you know? Are they just the people that live there? Do you KNOW the people that live there? What a great job you did with this, I really like it a lot!! I especially like the cool color blends of the houses, they make me feel like they're houses on another planet or maybe even in another universe. Keep up the great work!! MAS UNCLES

Mackenzie!! What a great-looking dog this is! I absolutely love the way you put its hind legs off to the side, I feel like it's a super realistic dog! Well, maybe not SUPER realistic because of the glasses - but that makes it even more fun to me! How did you know the dog needed glasses? Did he or she tell you they were having trouble seeing far away? Or are these just reading glasses?? Great job Mack!!!!!!

Mackenzie! This drawing makes me feel so happy and energized! When can I come to Wacky town? it looks like a really fun place. How did you think of it? Does it remind you of somewhere? I love how you thought of all the details of the different houses and things there. One house has snowflakes around it! That is very wacky! I'm so proud of you and love all your artwork! Keep making drawings. You are very very very good at it!!!

I love your art work. So creative and colorful. Telling a story with your art..
- Gail on September 3, 2022
Mackenz, there is SO much cool stuff going on in this artwork!! Wacky Town is a great name for this place, there's so much wackiness going on! I love the different colors and characters, houses, paths, stars...this picture has everything. And is that FLUX CAPACITOR in the top middle!?!? You know from Back to the Future that's what makes time travel possible, right?? Great job - keep up the awesome work!!
- Jason(fan) on September 4, 2022
So many exciting things going on in this piece of art, Mackenzie!! As usual you have such a complex and multi-level presentation that is just awesome! I especially like how the color is only on the bear's clothing...except for the green structure behind him and the pink ears that snuck in. Then the sky looks like layers of stars and maybe a sunset or a rainbow? What is this bear thinking about? What are his dreams? Such an interesting piece of art, thanks for sharing it with everybody!!

Dear Niece Cousin Mackenzie Artist, Are you familiar with the work of Piet Mondrian? I feel like perhaps his spirit is speaking through your work in this piece! What you're doing here is nothing short of genius. Just like Mondrian, you are using flat color shapes to demonstrate to us how color creates space, just by the relationship of one color to another. When we look long enough, the blue rectangles seem to be going back in space while the red shapes come forward. You really mix things up by adding black squiggles on top of the blue. It makes it even better than Mondrian. I bet his spirit is so excited about this project and wished he thought of it himself. It seems you may have been using scissors in this project as well, like you are threading the papers in and out of each other. This is a really cool technique. What else can you do? The possibilities are endless! i can't wait to see more! xxox

Oooh Mackenzie, I feel like this is something very different from your other artwork. Your other stuff looked very much like something I recognized or that I was used to seeing in the world. This looks more like a feeling or emotion or something you might dream about. I think artist's call this "abstract" (Aunt Cousin Alyssa please correct me if I'm wrong). I think it's so neat. Did you cut out the black and blue rectangles and paste them on? I feel like this is a journey you are taking me on but the trip is not going the way we thought it would. We're encountering many obstacles and experiencing totally different and new challenges and situations. Great job - keep up the good work!!

I am so intrigued by this fabulous artwork. i see so many important details, so I know it was really well thought out and important to get all the parts just right and it all came together in a very well balanced composition. You really have a good sense of how to fill the whole picture plane and balance the whole picture. This is so smart! How did you learn to do that so well? The three big waves are very forceful pushing up from the bottom left and then they are met by the orange boat and the storm cloud to stop the eye from going off the page. There is a tan path like piece of land after the second wave which really draws the eye iNTO the picture. how smart is that? i cannot even stand it. It so perfectly takes me right up to that boat and the poor guy who is falling out of the boat and screaming "AHHH!" He can see his friend below and is not happy about where this is going. And because we see he is falling upwards, it's showing us how strong these waves are that picked up the boat and then dropped it, leaving him up in the air! You thought of everything! Then there are the crows overhead which are reminiscent of Van Gogh's final masterpiece "Crows in the Wheat Field", truly one of my most favorite paintings. They are an ominous warning of what's to come for that guy, as is the orange sky overhead. I love the perfect balance of warm and cool colors that really create a tension and excitement in the picture. i give this picture an AAAA+++++ for all the very intellectual decisions and a strong execution! Keep 'em coming, Mackenzie, you are a true artist. i can't wait for the next one!
- Aunt Cousin Alyssa on September 16, 2021
Mackenzie, this is one of my favorite pieces of art you've ever made! Sometimes I feel like that person on the boat - there's waves going everywhere and I'm just flying out of it! I love all the different colors you used and the shapes of the wave are so neat! I want to know more about the person or animal in black in that one wave, are they scuba diving or what? Great great job, keep up the awesome work!!

What a fascinating use of shapes and colors Mackenzie! This reminds me of night time and deserts and maybe even a little bit of fire? I can see you put a lot of work into it....great job!!!!

First of all, Mackenzie, I can't believe you did these already at age 5! They look like they could be in a New York City Museum like the Whitney Museum! I bet someday your work will be. This one looks like four portraits of the same woman feeling 4 different feelings. The first one she looks kind of like she is just thinking or maybe listening to someone else talking to her. The second one she is so happy! her smile is big and her cheeks are even flushed and her eyes are brightened up! Even the background is brighter to match her cheeks. Seems her happiness has even changed the color of the walls! Then the bottom left one, she is really angry. In London, people would say "cross". Ask you dad to say that in an accent, it's really funny when he does it. But anyway, this lady is so angry! Her face is dark dark red and so is the wall. her hair and her right eye look like she is looking at the person in the next square. is that who made her so upset? Especially her eyebrows turned down and her smile upside down also tells me how mad she is. I hope the doesn't stay mad for too long! The last one i am just not sure about...can you tell me ? She seems kind of "over it" but also very beautiful. She is confident. And the green behind her makes me feel like she is peaceful. Maybe she hasn't forgotten what made her so mad but she is definitely moving on. ! haha! I'm so proud of you! I can't believe how well you can draw with each new picture!!! please make sure you keep drawing and painting and coloring. it's important that when we have a special skill we do it a lot because there are very important magical messages there for other people to find. you don't have to worry about that, you just have to draw as much as you can! I love you! - Aunt Cousin Alyssa
