I began my teaching career in West York in 2005 as a long-term substitute teacher. By the end of that year, I secured a full-time position as the K-5 art specialist. My passion for the arts runs deep, as I believe it offers students a unique platform to express talents that might otherwise go unnoticed. Although I loved art as a child, I didn’t take it seriously until high school.
During my junior year, my interest in art blossomed into a true passion when I was selected to attend the Pennsylvania Govern ... read moreor's School for the Arts. This life-changing experience allowed me to live in Erie for five weeks, immersing myself in various art forms, including music, theater, dance, and visual arts.
Following my time at PGSA, I pursued my studies at the Tyler School of Art at Temple University in Philadelphia. My coursework was extensive and diverse, covering sculpture, painting, drawing, printmaking, glassblowing, ceramics, textiles, graphic arts, and illustration. A highlight of my college experience was studying abroad for a semester in Rome, just a stone's throw from Vatican City.
After returning from Rome, I completed my student teaching at Samuel Fels High School in the Philadelphia Area School District. This journey eventually brought me to West York, PA, where I now teach and call home. I currently live with my husband and our son, along with our two loving boxers, Larry and Becky.
In my spare time, I enjoy traveling, gardening, and creating art whenever I can. Teaching in my community has provided me with unique opportunities, such as painting murals at the Lincolnway and Green Valley community swimming pools. I truly cherish the chance to inspire my students and contribute to the community I love. Additionally, my passion for my Philadelphia football team has led me to paint our car, proudly displaying my long-standing love for the Philadelphia Eagles!
As I now navigate my 20th year of teaching art, I am even more enthusiastic about the role art plays in children's education. In my classroom, I strive to create an inspiring environment that promotes and fosters a high level of creativity. My focus is on providing students with a solid artistic foundation, exposing them to various art styles and materials, and encouraging them to express themselves through creative exploration.
