Art Teacher Kinder - 5th Grade I was born in Texas, but at two-years-old I moved to Spanish Harlem in New York City. After kindergarten I moved to Fairfield, Connecticut for 1st grade, then on to Norwalk, CT for 2nd grade, then to East Haddam, CT for, well, you get the picture... For various reasons I ended up going to 17 schools before I graduated High School! It was really tough at times, but it had some real benefits as well. My dad was a professional artist. I was always surrounded by the creative infl ... read moreuence of writers, musicians, actors, and other artists.
I went to 3 colleges: Middlesex Community College, The School of Visual Arts in NY City, and Central Connecticut State University in New Britain where I got my B.S. in Art Education. I moved to Houston Texas in 1992 where I was hired as one of the first four Art Teachers in Spring Branch. That was 29 years ago. Today I love teaching just as much as I did when I first started, maybe even more. I believe children's art speaks a language like no other.
I think my students and I are so lucky to have each other. Everyday I aim to teach them to be fearless and have fun getting to know their own abilities, interests, and to develop new skills.
And they in turn, continue to teach me that art is a constant gift of the imagination, to be forever curious, free to make mistakes, and free to delight in our successes!
I know without a doubt we're all looking forward to a new year of creative self-discovery!
