Caitlin Erwin
Hello! My name is Caitlin Erwin. This will be my 13th year teaching in the Troy School District. This year I will be teaching all of our Schroeder artists and travel to Morse Elementary once a week. I received my Bachelors of Science in Art Education from Central Michigan University. I also received my Masters degree in Art Education in the spring of 2018 from Wayne State University.
I have a strong passion for the arts! In my free time I love painting, digital art, and hand building with clay. I also ... read morelove to read, work on home renovation projects, and enjoy the great outdoors with my family.
I am very excited to be teaching art at Schroeder and Morse Elementary! I don't just LOVE art, I thoroughly enjoy working with children. I have always felt strongly that art is a vital part of the curriculum, and offers students a chance to strengthen problem solving and critical thinking skills, as well as gain cultural and historical understanding. In addition, the arts help students to build self-discipline, perseverance, and a good work ethic. As well as being valuable in their own right, the arts help students build solid connections with other academic areas and integrate learning across the curriculum.
This year will be filled with thinking, discussing, creating, and fun! We will spend time observing, describing, questioning, and investigating art images and processes. Over the course of the school year, we will explore various techniques, artists, art history, and materials in art. Through drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture, collage, fibers, and technology, students will be able to express individual ideas, thoughts, and feelings. My goal is to make art a positive experience for every student. I truly believe “every child is an artist”! My hope is that students will use their creative brains to express themselves. Students can look forward to feelings safe, respected, and cared for when they enter my art room.
We make a lot of art during the school year. Most pieces will be kept in the art room for tracking student growth, hanging art shows and displays and to allow students to continue working at their pace. Your child will bring everything home in a portfolio at the end of the school year! This also gives students a lot of pride in the final pieces they create.
I am looking forward to another exciting and inspirational school year!
