Caitlin Erwin
Hello! My name is Caitlin Erwin. I’m excited to be your child’s art teacher this year at Schroeder Elementary School. This is my 13th year teaching art in the Troy School District and my 6th year serving as the Elementary Art Department Head. This year, I’ll be teaching all of our talented Schroeder artists and will also travel to Morse Elementary once a week.
I earned my Bachelor of Science in Art Education from Central Michigan University in 2010, and completed my Master’s degree in Art Education at W ... read moreayne State University in the spring of 2018. I am deeply passionate about arts education and feel honored to nurture creativity in students every day. I don’t just love art—I truly enjoy working with children. I believe that art is a vital part of a well-rounded education. It gives students the opportunity to build critical thinking and problem-solving skills, develop self-discipline and perseverance, and gain an appreciation for cultural and historical perspectives. Art also helps foster confidence and supports meaningful connections across academic subjects. This year, students will be immersed in a creative and engaging curriculum filled with thinking, discussing, creating, and fun! We’ll spend time observing, describing, questioning, and investigating a wide range of artistic processes. Students will explore materials and techniques such as drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture, collage, fibers, and digital media, while learning about influential artists and art history. My goal is to make art a positive and meaningful part of every child’s education—regardless of their skill level or background. I truly believe that “every child is an artist,” and I work hard to foster a classroom environment where students feel safe, respected, and empowered to express themselves creatively. We create a lot of art throughout the school year! Most student work will be kept in the art room to allow for continued progress, track growth, and be featured in displays and art shows. At the end of the year, your child will bring everything home in a portfolio to celebrate their hard work and accomplishments.
I am looking forward to another exciting and inspirational school year!
