Laurie Harnish
Hello, I am the art teacher at both Ann LeTort and Martic Elementary. I currently live in Pequea along to Susquehanna River. As an independent artist I have pursued many areas but my emphasis has been in ceramics/pottery, photography, and glass blowing. I also enjoy being outdoors by hiking, gardening, skiing, camping and traveling to visit new places.
An interesting fact is my grandparents were from Indonesia, a Dutch village. My uncle was from Lima, Peru. Both family members immigrated here to the ... read more US. I also am related to Hans Herr, one of the first settlers in Lancaster County. I love studying and learning about art made around the world as well as art and artists from here.
I have received a Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in Art Education studying at Indiana University of PA, University of Hawaii, Millersville University and Wilson College. I served on the Pennsylvania Art Education Association Board of Directors as the Youth Art Month Chair coordinating a state-wide art exhibition for the Pennsylvania Department of Education at their building in Harrisburg.
Teaching art is my passion! I love enriching children about art from a variety of cultures and history, famous artists, local artists and most importantly incorporating student interests and passions. I also enjoy exhibiting student art; digitally and in shows locally, statewide, and even once had student work on a billboard in New York City.
