Lakeshia Jefferson-Abraha
Hello KES Family!
I am so thrilled to start the new school year with a fresh start with you and your jr. artist! As we all know the past few years have been interesting, to say the least. This school year will be jam-packed with new beginnings. Before we indulge in all the exciting things happening in the art room, I would like to introduce myself; My name is Keshia Jefferson-Abraha and this is my 4th year as the Art teacher here at KES and my 8th year in education. I was born and raised in Wilson, NC, ... read moreI hold my bachelor's degree in Fine Arts from Greensboro College, along with a Credential in Early Childhood Education from Wake Technical Community College. In January of 2015, I started my journey as the Preschool Teacher’s Assistant at Chesterbrook Academy in Cary, North Carolina, and within a year I was given the opportunity to showcase my talent as the Art teacher. Fast forward to 2017, I transition to the public school system working with Durham Public schools at Y.E. Smith Elementary.
Throughout the year I plan on exposing our students to our elements of art, principles of design, art criticism, art mediums and styles, and a wide range of different artists. I will encourage them to talk intelligently about art and see the beauty in the world that surrounds us. In anticipation of having an art show in the spring, I will be keeping much of your student's artwork at school to be displayed. I will be sending their work home at the end of the school for your enjoyment. This year I want to build a community here at Artsonia so each parent can be in the loop of what's going on in the art room. It is my expectation that all students will do their best in art class as they would in any other class at Knightdale elementary. Qualities for success in art class are: being responsible, respectful, resourceful, having a good attitude, and having a creative mind. Art provides the opportunity for students to experience a different atmosphere from the standard classroom setting. It can be fun, relaxing, hands-on, messy, and exciting.
If you have any questions or concerns throughout the year, or you would like to donate to the art program, assist in hanging art, or help plan and set up for the art show please do not hesitate to contact me at:
