Hello! This will be my 20th year teaching Art. Prior to this I taught at Holland Middle School for two years, Hartford Schools at Redwood Elementary for 3 years and also in Atlanta, Georgia teaching elementary Art for 11 years. I have a bachelors degree in Art Education from Grand Valley State University and a Master of Arts degree from Central Michigan University. I have two daughters Allyss ... read morea who is 32 and Bella who is 14 and will be starting the 9th grade at Saugatuck Public Schools. I live across the Dune Buggy ride place in Saugatuck on 65th and Blue Star Hwy in the Sanctuary Neighborhood. I was born in the Holland Hospital and grew up and graduated in Allendale so I am from this area. I look forward to this upcoming school year and sharing my passion with art making and being creative with your students!
I teach Art with Choice Based Art Education. Students will make Art based on their own interests and skills. Their artwork may look different as it will be more based on the process of art making and not as focused on the product or what it looks like. Students will be very excited about their art making and projects as they will get to choose what art studio they work from: drawing, paint, clay, construction (sculptures) weaving, collage and many more! (There will be times throughout the year we will take a break from art studios and do a skill builder together.) Students will earn new studios as they learn how to use and care for them.
