Karen Wockenfuss
Welcome to Simmons Middle School located in Aberdeen, South Dakota. My name is Karen L. Wockenfuss and I was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois. I attended Northern State Teacher's College in Aberdeen and received my Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education degree. Moving to South Dakota was a big change in my life, but it was a 'heart tug' that I have enjoyed for +37 years. As a child, I remember a strong creative desire to choose coloring books that focused on farmlife. I enjoyed coloring in cows a ... read morend barns and I was enamored by the rolling hills and the spacious textured landscapes. My husband, Mel (originally from South Dakota) and I travel the dakota area extensively and we still enjoy the rolling hills and spacious landscapes.
I am very proud of my sixth, seventh and eighth grade art students. They challenge me daily with their artistic talents. Every student that has artwork displayed on Artsonia is so proud and is anxious to create more. I love the sparkle of the pending creativeness in a student's eye.
I am a proud mother of three wonderful children. My daughter is a manager of McDonald's and has blessed me with two wonderful grandsons. My twin sons are both architects and currently work in the midwest.
I attribute my life, full of successes, challenges and failures to my Lord, Jesus Christ. All of my talents are gifts from Him and as I use them faithfully I work diligently directing two yearly middle school plays a year, display 400+ student artworks, attend school functions,and decorate my church for the upcoming church season. I enjoy such hobbies as sewing, scrapbooking, stamping and incorporate these hobbies into my personal artworks.
