I have been teaching high school and/or middle school since 2000. I enjoy all forms of art, health and PE. My classrooms tend to be busy places where learning is ongoing, exciting, and in a family-style classroom atmosphere. We are up and moving to keep our brain juices flowing, we are collaborating, working independently, and encouraging each other to succeed and push through hard challenges to produce one's best work. I expect great things from my students and my expectations are met by amazing pieces of ... read moreart. I tell my students that if they can draw a stick figure, I can teach them how to draw. Drawing is the premise to great artwork and that is exactly what is produced in room 123 at CGHS! We dabble in many mediums of art and explore different projects in which we use those mediums; pencil, colored pencils, chalk and oil pastels, multi-media, found art, repurposed book projects, painting, ceramics, and more.
Outside of school I am a wife, a mom, daughter, sister, and friend to many. My family and I enjoy adventuring off the beaten path in many different ways. Whether it be taking a back road to our destination, hiking new trails, camping in the middle of nowhere, or traveling across the country in search of another incredible adventure, we love to be on the go. My wife is also in education and our three kiddos at home are attending the local schools at different levels. We love the area we live in, and love our home in town.
Before making my way to Oregon I lived in Idaho for 18 years. Southern Idaho was my first foray away from home (WA) to get my undergrad degree in physical education and art education. Moving to Northern Arizona to pursue a master's degree in English Education and a career in coaching collegiate basketball took me away from Idaho for two years. When I returned it was to Moscow (northern Idaho) and the University of Idaho to coach basketball. Teaching called to me and I made my first teaching stop at a small, rural farm town called Troy. With all of 150 students in grades 7-12, I got my education in the classroom quickly; I had 6 different classes to teach each day. I learned a lot from my first teaching job, enjoyed the wonderful student and staff, but was ready for a new adventure in Oregon where a former colleague and great friend told me about a job opening.
After taking a job in a little bigger town and a much bigger school I have found my home. Our community is so amazing in so many ways; great teachers we have in our area schools, the resiliency of our youth, the wonderful students we see daily, and the opportunities afforded us by our culture and outdoor recreation in the area. This is where I call home and am proud to be part of this community with these kids!
