Hello! I'm so happy to be sharing my love of design with the students at Oak Grove Christian Academy. God's creativity is amazing, and we are made in His image! My goal is to encourage students to exercise and grow their creative abilities as a way to glorify God's gift of creation.
I graduated with a Master's of Architecture from Virginia Tech, and worked for 21 years at a large corporate architecture firm in Alexandria, designing and project-managing mid-rise and high-rise residential and commerci ... read moreal buildings. I resigned as an architect in order to refocus my energy on our family. I began homeschooling, and enrolled the kids at OGCA for "just music". One thing led to another, and in the fall of 2018, my daughter enrolled full time at OGCA and I started teaching art for the middle school. Now both of my kids are full time students at OGCA, and I teach K-12 art.
The art room is truly my happy place. Recently, Kindergarten was doing a collage project with glue and tissue paper. I paused for a moment to look around the room and my heart leapt with joy at the fantastically messy process! Art is crucial to a well-rounded K-12 education, helping students to develop brain connections, fine motor skills, and emotional regulation. I also strongly encourage adding art to STEM (STEAM) so that students get fully immersed in complex problem-solving.
God has truly blessed me with this opportunity. I pray for His guidance in developing the curriculum so it meets the needs of each student, while spreading joy to all.
