I am an elementary art teacher of students in grades kindergarten through five. I teach at 2 schools in midcoast Maine that are part of a larger district, known as RSU 71. I see students for 45 minutes once a week for the whole school year. This averages to about around 35 art classes per year for each student. Time flies by fast when you account for instruction, demonstration, materials, work-time, and clean-up. We get right down to business! I try to keep my art lessons varied, with a mix of long and shor ... read moret projects that gives kids different kinds of experiences with both 2-D and 3-D materials. Many of the lessons here I have borrowed or adapted from others online. I have found this to be an invaluable resource and hope that posting works here spreads the inspiration. Enjoy looking at some of the projects we are working on!
About me: I grew up in Scarborough, but have not looked south since I found midcoast Maine! I graduated with a BFA in painting from the University of Montana, Missoula in 1997, and earned a Master of Arts in Teaching from University of New Hampshire, Durham in 2001. I have taught art at Bath Middle School, and Elementary schools in Ellsworth, Searsport, Frankfort, Stockton Springs, Swanville, and Belfast. I hope to get back to painting, but it will most likely be a retirement hobby. Much of my time these days is lovingly dedicated to parenting, traveling, gardening, and teaching. I am outdoors as much as possible.
