I don’t remember a time in my life when I wasn’t creating something! My mom is a retired teacher and an artist, So it seemed natural for me to teach art. I recently graduated from Texas Women’s University where I received a Bachelors of Art and certification to teach K-12 Art. This is my second year at Accommodated Learning Academy.
My husband, Tim, works for Cisco Systems in Richardson. He double degreed at Texas A&M in Computer Science and Electrical Engineering. January we will celebrate 20 years ... read moreof marriage. We recently moved to NE Denton County on the north end of Lake Lewisville. It is country living with the benefits of the city in close proximity. Although I live in Denton county, I grew up in the Mid Cities and attended L.D Bell High School so I am very familiar with the surrounding area.
Tim and I have two children, Jonathan 13 and Claire 10. I am so proud of both of them. They attend public school in Denton ISD and love it. Jonathan plays the Cello in the Symphonic Orchestra at Navo Middle School, is on the Denton Dolphins Swim Team, is a member of the National Junior Honor Society, UIL Maps, Graphs and Charts, Chess Club. Claire starts orchestra this year in fifth grade, was elected to the student council by her peers, has been involved with Destination Imagination for 3 years and is also on the Denton Dolphins swim team. In October, Claire and I will attend Journey Camp for our second time. Journey Camp is a Destination Imagination weekend camp at Sky Ranch. It is an action packed weekend for creative minded kids. Destination Imagination is an awesome program that encourages creative thinking skills in a competitive team format. Claire loves it and although I go as a volunteer I have a blast too.
This is my second year at ALA and I love it. I attempt to make real connections in the art room. We learn about each other, art history, other cultures besides our own and as many art techniques and concepts as time allows. I have created a peaceful environment where the students feel free to be creative. I teach much more than art as we practice life skills in the art room. The students learn respect for each other, acceptance of differences, responsibility for art supplies and cleaning up the room. The art room belongs to us all, we are a community and we work together for a common cause.
I look forward to seeing all the students again and meeting the new students that have come to ALA.
