Mr. Haut
As an artist and educator, I believe that by giving back and challenging our students they all can learn and apply art theory into their daily lives and become better artists as well as respectful educated citizens. My philosophy of teaching starts with the goal of becoming a lifelong learner, constantly improving and evolving my pedagogy through creating, researching, and also being a listener. I view myself as a role model in and out of the classroom. I have developed a teaching practice focused on pushin ... read moreg my students to become better makers and thinkers that view art from a perspective of a respectful appreciative individual. I do this by pushing their abilities in-process and guiding them throughout the identification of their self-worth.
Art is the center of the EARTH and without art, everything would be eh... We surround ourselves with inundating amounts of images at rapid rates through our ads, technologies, apps, and even the music we all listen too. Art consumes us and my goal is to make them aware of how they are interrelated into that mixture. In my opinion circles and water connect us all. Through my pushing of the Elements and Principles of Design the students gain insight into, "where we have been, where we are, and where we are going?"
Throughout my experiences as an art educator, I have learned about the practice of teaching. One of the most important aspects of teaching I have learned over the years is that every student is unique. There is not a "one size fits all" approach that will match all students' needs. What works for one student may not work for another. I instruct with many different instructional methods and attempt to understand the needs of the individual students.
In each of my classes, I install a sense of pride and respect to ensure my students have the encouragement to ask questions, and the audacity to bring in, the diversity of influences they have in their own lives. No matter where those influences come from, they make up the individuality of each student. Part of my role as the facilitator is to seek out where those passions are, and give each student the support and confidence to pursue them. I encourage students by exploring a range of subject matter, with various materials, and create a supportive and balanced studio community.
From the first day of class, I expect my students to be ambitious and take charge of their learning; I guide them but expect them to engage with the tasks on their own. Through openness, laughter, stories, and conversations, I promote a culture where my students understand they are free to express themselves through their work. Technical skills must always be the balancing factor to conceptual knowledge. Without technological knowledge, a student will face barriers to executing their ideas. So I am embedding the Elements and Principles of Design into their everyday vocabulary. It is part of the student's responsibility to employ the techniques that best suit their projects and media choices.
