The classroom is a small glimpse of a larger world, whose paths are many and varied. My role as an art educator is to forecast, navigate and show students how to clear certain paths and to critically think within a certain medium. Along the way, I invigorate the “journeying” learners, recharge them in their collective and individual tasks, and encourage reflective pause.
I have discovered that art is not play, a leisure pursuit, a hobby or a subordinate subject, but a way to knowledge so vital and funda ... read moremental that we dare not to neglect it. Art demands powers of perception, feelings and understanding of an individual. As children develop, they strive to make sense of their world and through art we can discover a sense of meaning and become aware of our own individuality. Every child’s creative experience is a response to life and the world as it touches him or her personally and insight is deepened as a result. My primary goal as a teacher is to enable students to love the subject of art because it advances and enhances a philosophical, empathetic society.
I hope to instill in my students a love for lifelong learning. Students’ active participation in the classroom through activities and lessons demonstrate the desire to learn. I am committed to encouraging and rewarding their efforts.
