Laura Valentine Hi and welcome to my Studio! My name is Laura Valentine and I am a certified teacher for all subjects K-8 and Science K-9 and ART K-12. I am also an Artist who likes to work in many different media; Painting, Drawing, Printmaking, Jewelry and Metalsmithing, Textiles, Sculpture, and Pottery. This year I wish to re-dedicate my time with my family and reconnect with friends. My studio downtown closed last March due to the economy and my sister's battle with Breast Cancer. We were able to spend the summer helping her and enjoying time with Diane and her family. She lost her battle on August 22, 2009. We were so blessed to be able to have more time than any Dr. would have predicted. God has a plan, how she longed to be with Him in heaven. I will be dedicating my time this year by forming a Relay for Life team in the Studio's name. Two of our studio mom's are battling breast cancer, and I've had a close brush with a lump myself this winter. It's a fibroid, but we're "watching it". I have had just about enough of this ridiculously unnecessary disease! You will see art exhibits on Artsonia for this cause. Please purchase them from the gift shop to help our Team raise funds for finding a CURE! ALL OF Laura's Home Education Art Studio students are eligible for free gallery space here at this site! That means any artwork you do can be submitted as soon as you are registered, and you can tell all your relatives and friends about this site, invite them to your gallery space, the Studio's gallery and make some sales! As an active student, your sales will be sent on to you in a check as soon as your commission reaches $10. So tell all your friends! The best part of this site is yet to come! It is my goal to grow as a Home Education Art Studio so that eventually I will be able to apply for non profit status, write grants and improve my space downtown for teaching larger groups, larger works to be created, gallery space and exhibition space. Fine Art Classes K-12 and Adult are offered in Painting, Drawing, Sculpture and Textiles. Location: In your home, Class Size: 1-5 students Duration: 90 minutes and two months minimum enrollment. Cost: $10/student/hour +materials, or byo materials. Tuition goes down as class size goes up. Example: 2-3 students normal $10/hr rate. 4-6 students $7/hour, 7-8 students $5/hour. Maximum of 8 students in any class and a student parent is required to assist any class with 6 or more students. Minimum of 2 students for a class to run. Tawny Lynelle Tawny is a Classroom Assistant at Laura's HEArt Studio. I like to think of her as my "fairy godmother". She is a the Lunch Lady at Northeastern Elementary and a Hair Stylist at Salon 37 next door. I have chosen Tawny to be my Classroom Assistant because of her home schooling experience, her public school experience and her positive encouragement with the students creative technique. Her talents and abilities are endless. She operates a Costume & Custom Alterations business in her studio next to mi ... read morene. She taught herself to throw pottery on the wheel from observing me teach one night. She also creates custom ceramic tiles which can be purchased in the studio. She can paint 1st paintings (like the portrait of the horse here) that would make any beginner green with envy. She likes to arrange flowers, raise gardens and most of all-- she can bake the best cookies! It is wonderful to have someone so rich in talent and so conscientious as to 'the proper way it should be done in service to the art-loving public'-- right next door. I can reach her in her studio across the hall from my office, or walk over to Salon 37 and there she is. She even designed my hair cut! Often I am in the middle of a project that needs four hands and in walks Tawny to help. It seems that I am thinking she will always be my "right hand man" because she can quickly upholster three office chairs without a press or power tools in no time flat. Cross threaded screws don't set her back at all, and no power tools?. You Just have to go to Star Elementary School and ask to see these chairs she did! I use to work in seating at Steelcase for two years, and I wouldn't have been able to do them as fast with just a home sewing machine and a hand stapler. I don't know what I'd do without her in my studio. There are some wild and wonderful projects cooking up in our heads for seasons to come, so keep your eyes peeled and be ready to be dazzled!
