Biography

Art has been a part of my life ever since I was around 3 years old. At that time, I would often sit next to my big sister to watch her work on her art homework from high school. She was, and still is, a very good artist! We grew up on a small peach farm in Hughson, California, and from those early years, I always loved to draw from watching my sister with her creative, country-like style. Now, never in my wildest dreams, did I ever think that I would grow up to become an actual art teacher and artist! Going to college and a university was just not in my future plans. In fact, whenever my parents would drive by a university, I remember looking out from our car window to see if I could see the rich people going to college. College was out of my reach when I was a teenager, but I made it happen as I worked my way through many professions. I became the first in my family to get a college education, and I'm thankful that it paid off. Teaching art and being an artist is a dream job! I have been working as an art teacher for Modesto City Schools for 5 years now. I received my BA in art from Stanislaus State University in 2003. I then worked to get double teaching credentials from Chapman University for teaching multiple subjects to elementary school students and a single subject art credential for teaching junior high & high school students in 2007. Now, after working and going to college at the same time, I get to enjoy teaching students art!!! It is very exciting to get to meet new students every year, and to watch them grow and learn as they work with different styles of art and diverse mediums. I hope that when they leave my art class, and they move on in life, that they will have an appreciation for what art is and what it does for our culture and community.
