Franklin, Tennessee
Biography
Sharon Bohner Byers has been a teacher at Freedom Intermediate School since 2005. A graduate of the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, she has taught across the state of Tennessee, beginning at New Hopewell School, Knox County, teaching sixth grade and art. While raising her small children, she was an entrepreneur, starting her business, The Enchanted Clothier, an English Smocking shoppe selling supplies and teaching classes. Sharon was a designer of english smocking color plates for several companies, has sold her original graphic designs internationally, was a founding member of the Smocking Arts Guild of America (SAGA) and was instructor of Color Design at two of the SAGA national conventions.
She returned to the classroom teaching at St. Mary's Episcopal School, Memphis for several years. Upon leaving teaching, she spent several years selling residential real estate before returning to the independent school family working at Memphis University School in the Alumni and Development Office, then moving to Nashville and the Harpeth Hall School in the same capacity. During the 11 years working in Advancement, she continued her artistic interests in calligraphy, children's wall murals, painting, woodworking, gardening, and home renovations. Mrs. Byers returned to her passions of art and teaching when she began her tenure at Freedom Intermediate School.
Sharon is the daughter of the late Nashville watercolor artist, Betty Bohner, who was a long time member of the Tennessee Art League, and the Southern Watercolor Society.
