Biography

I have been teaching at Edwards-Knox since 2009. I began my career as a K-6 teacher, but now teach 7th-12th grade. I find such joy in helping students realize their potential as artists, especially when they think they have none. Everyone is an artist in their own way, whether they are good at sculpture, drawing, painting...etc.

My choice of medium is ceramics, however I love painting with acrylic paint, and oil pastels are quickly becoming my favorite drawing medium. My favorite style of art is definitely impressionism, and I'm partial to Monet and Van Gogh.

Currently, my teaching style is leaning towards choice based learning, otherwise known as T.A.B., or Teaching Artistic Behavior. The idea behind choice based learning is to have students experiment and learn from mistakes on their own, rather than having a teacher preach to them. I do demonstrations to teach new techniques, and we still learn about historical and current artists, but when it comes to the projects, they are more open ended and the students have more choice in the materials they get to use.
