Biography
Welcome back! I want to take this opportunity to introduce myself to the 5th-8th grade students and families that I will be in contact with this year. My name is Becky Baksa, this will be my twenty-forth year teaching for North Branch Area Schools, so I probably know many of you already. I am currently the art teacher for the 5th through 8th grades. I am looking forward to a great year with your kids.
The 5th grade students will have specials on a one week rotation schedule throughout the entire school year. I plan on keeping each student’s artwork until the end of the year. It will be sent home towards the end of the school year in a portfolio. This procedure has worked well for my 7th and 8th graders, due to the fact that a greater percentage of artwork actually makes it home! It also makes it more convenient for displaying artwork in the school building. The 7th and 8th Graders will have the art rotation for 9 weeks. We will explore a variety of different art media and techniques throughout the year.
My husband and I feel blessed to be raising our three boys in the community of North Branch. He teaches in our district as well, high school science. Our oldest son, Gabe, graduated from North Branch High School in 2022 and attends Grand Valley State University. Our middle son, Jackson, is in 11th grade. And our youngest son, Oliver, is in 6th grade. Their schedules and activities keep me very busy when I’m not at school.
Creating art has been a lifelong passion of mine, and I work on my own artwork at home every chance that I get. I hope that my enthusiasm for the subject is contagious in the classroom. Your child is going to create some amazing pieces this year!
Looking forward to a great year,
Becky Baksa
