Biography

I have been teaching visual arts at Daphne Middle School for 20 years, and previously, I taught elementary level for four years. It is very rewarding for me to inspire and motivate students to use their creativity and watch them learn while producing art! I encourage individuality as art is personal, and projects are based on various artists, art styles, and cultures.

My goal is for students to learn about artists and styles, expression, criticism, appreciation, and processes and materials in production. I believe that producing art utilizes critical thinking and problem solving skills and carries over to life-long learning. Creating art can be for everyone as everyone has creativity, and everyone can learn new skills. Students become more confident and build self-esteem as well.

I am originally from near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and our family moved to Daphne, Alabama 25 years ago. I have a husband, two adult kids, two horses, five cats, 3 donkeys, a potbelly pig, and one dog. Along with spending time with family, I enjoy riding my horses, running (with my dog), and painting. I have worked a local YMCA for over 17 years, and I enjoyed it a lot.
