Biography
Shoshana is a visual artist from Philadelphia and a graduate of Parsons School of Design in New York City, where she specialized in illustration and art education. She also holds a master’s degree in elementary education from Cabrini College. Prior to joining Tessellations, Shoshana taught in both public and private schools, including a three-year tenure in Shanghai. With a passion for art history, she is always eager to deepen her understanding of diverse and unique visual artists. Her interests include 16th-century Flemish art, Japanese Ukiyo-e, and the activist work of the Guerrilla Girls. Each month, the art studio spotlights a new Artist of the Month, engaging the entire school community in an exploration of their contributions. Shoshana enjoys learning alongside her students, often featuring artists that are either new to her or recommended by the students themselves. She is enthusiastic about implementing a choice-based, student-centered art program at Tessellations, fostering an environment that promotes creativity, experimentation, and a mastery of various artistic media and techniques.
Outside of the classroom, Shoshana is an avid traveler who has explored over 20 countries and 30 states, and is always planning her next adventure. She has a keen interest in visiting World Heritage Sites, art museums, national parks, and distinctive cultural landmarks. In addition to travel, she enjoys vegetarian cooking, hiking, camping, and spending quality time with her family, which includes her two children, who are also students at Tessellations.
