Biography

BVT Visual Arts
Creative expression is an innate human instinct, a tradition of all world cultures, and an increasingly important skill in contemporary society. The BVT Art Department strives to teach students about the technical principles of a variety of art forms, to expose them to a diversity of artists, styles, and movements from art history and contemporary art, and to provide them with the freedom to create expressive pieces of art. The development of technique, exposure to diverse arts, and freedom of expression are all integral to empowering students with the skills to be critical thinkers, successful artists, and literate audience members of the arts.

Art Studio Program
The BVT art program consists of a series of Art Studio classes for grades 9-12. Art Studio is a choice-based curriculum in which students have access to an array of 2D and 3D materials to make open creative projects based on their interests. Each class will learn about various materials and techniques, as well as the elements and principles of art and design. Along with creative work, students will explore a diverse array of historical and contemporary artists from all regions of the world and practice skills for viewing and understanding art. Each Art Studio class offers different content, so every year is a unique experience. In addition to general courses, an Advanced Art Studio class is available to seniors interested in a more rigorous and ambitious curriculum, pursuing a profession in the creative arts, and/or developing a portfolio to apply to art school.
