Biography

My name is Kelly Jones and I teach K-12 art and many other subjects at Maxwell Municipal Schools. I dabble in all art mediums personally, but more frequently with painting and photography, and with the performing arts as well.

This year, one of my goals is to make what we do in the art room more transparent for our school family and community members. I want our community to know what we are studying, and that we do so much more than just drawing and coloring. Through Artsonia, students have a platform to build their art portfolio and share their artwork with their family, our school community, and with prospective employers and colleges in the future, if they choose to go into an art-related field. Artsonia also provides families with opportunities to make copies of artwork or have them printed on keepsakes if they so choose, and the school receives a portion of the sales for our art program supplies.

In addition, I am working on transforming our classroom into a TAB (Teaching Artistic Behaviors) Classroom, which means students will learn the skills, habits, and behaviors required of professional studio artists, and will also have a lot more freedom in which mediums they choose for each project. I am still planning to submit our student artwork into the art shows at the Old Pass Gallery in Raton, but through Artsonia, long-distance relatives will be able to view their artwork in a virtual art show as well.
