Biography
I'm happy to be in my 11th year of teaching at the Carmel School. After being the only art teacher at Carmel for many years, I'm happy to say that we've grown so much that we had to hire two more art teachers (Mrs. Carter in LS and Ms. Karwacki in MS) so I now teach only upper school. In Carmel art classes the students have the opportunity to learn, discover, and create art in a huge variety of media and are inspired by art from around the world and at different times.
I am the daughter of Army officers, so I had the opportunity to travel all through my childhood. As a second-grader, I walked the halls of Paris's Louvre museum and still have memories of the art I saw. This early art exposure had a huge influence on my own artistic development. After graduating from high school in Georgia, I moved to Virginia to earn a BA and then an M.ed from the University of Mary Washington.
While I love to work in all media, I tend toward drawing, acrylics, encaustic, and ceramics.
