Biography
My name is Jennifer Parrigin and I am the art teacher at South Dorchester School. I have been a middle school art teacher for the past eleven years and I am very excited to be starting my second year with the Primary and Elementary students. This year we will be focusing heavily on the Elements and Principles of design.

I am originally from Martins Ferry, Ohio where I graduated from Martins Ferry High School. Soon after graduation, I moved to Athens, Ohio where I received a Bachelors degree in Fine Arts. My major was in printmaking with an emphasis in drawing. After living three years in Columbus, Ohio, I decided to move to Akron, Ohio to get a Masters degree in Art Education. Masters in Art Education was a new program at the UofA so I was the first graduate assistant to work with the public schools and teachers in the area, it was very exciting.

After graduating with a 3.8 GPA, my husband and I moved to Rocky Mount, North Carolina. My very first teaching position was as a middle school art teacher at Nash Central Middle School. I had the pleasure of teaching there for seven years as well as being nominated as Teacher of the Year by my colleagues during the 2010-2011 school year. While teaching, I was very active in the art community and was able to show my work all over Central and Eastern North Carolina. I was nominated as "Rocky Mount's Best Artist" and won several merit awards for my art. My husband's job required us to relocated to Greensboro, NC where we had our first son, Wyatt. My second position was at a year-round school in Graham, NC. I taught at GMS for three amazing years and was recognized by my new colleagues as the GMS's Teacher of the Year for the 2012-2013 school year. During my last year at GMS we had another son that we named Benji. Our life's adventure has now moved us to Maryland and I am honored to teach at South Dorchester School. I have been made to feel welcome by the staff, students and parents of the areas. I can't wait to show the world our students' hard work!
