Christa Rijneveld Collage

Students were introduced to the stylized mountainous landscapes of contemporary artist Christa Rijneveld with this quick collage lesson that has been inspired by her work. In this lesson, students will focus on pattern, line and space while working a marker landscape. To take their project one step further, students have the option of adding an image of an animal  in the landscape’s foreground to create contrast between realism and abstraction, just as Rijneveld and Canadian artist Regan Johnston do in their amazing collaborations that are inspired by the Canadian wilderness surrounding them.
CHRISTA RIJNEVELD grew up on a dairy farm in the Netherlands. She loved to draw as a child and applied to art school at 18 but didn’t get accepted and quit making art for some time. In 2015, she moved to British Columbia, Canada. Surrounded by mountains, she begin drawing again with pen and ink and eventually painting. She is known for using a mixture of lines and dots to create beautiful works of art that feature the flowing sides and jagged edges of the mountains around her.
