About this School Project (Glue-Line Printmaking- Symbols)
5th grade artists created a symbol for themselves. They to time to look into their own identities and created a drawing of a symbol to represent them. This drawing was transferred to a printing plate (tag board), then they carefully traced over their lines with glue. When dry, artists created a rubbing of their glue-line drawing using a crayon and paper as a test so they could analyze if more glue was needed in places. When they were satisfied with this, they used a printing plate, printing ink, and a brayer to apply the ink evenly over their printing block. They created two prints.
Students then analyzed each print and chose their least successful one to create a "fauvist" style drawing over their print. Using oil pastels in bold colors, artists were able to accentuate the details in their symbols. They could choose which print they wanted to add to their gallery.
