About this School Project (3-A Maybe Something Beautiful!)
This lesson is inspired by the organic shapes and vibrant colors that the artist Rafael Lo´pez uses in both his children's book illustrations and murals. Students will focus on line and shape to create a mini-mural wall, ant then collage themselves into their artwork. Lo´pez is a muralist and children’s book illustrator who was born in Mexico City, Mexico. Growing up in Mexico, Lo´pez was surrounded by murals by Diego Rivera, which influenced him as a young man. He illustrated the book Maybe Something Beautiful, which was based on his efforts to reclaim San Diego neighborhoods by infusing art and color into the community and enlisting community help and support.
